I was on the pill for 16 years. I started it early because of debilitating cramps when I first started menstrating, and it helped so I kept taking it until my early 30's. But as soon as I stopped taking the pill, I didn't get my period back right away and then I didn't get pregnant for 3 years. I have recently worried that the pill may have caused long term symptoms/hormone changes that may not be easy to reverse. For example, according to holistic doctor Jolene Brighten, did you know that the pill is linked to depression?

Even scarier, she found that birth control pills change your body's chemistry on a cellular level, among a whole list of other things nobody mentioned to you when they prescribed the pill:

Every single time I've done either a retrieval or a frozen embryo transfer cycle, the doctor's prescribed protocol insisted that I take birth control (for a couple weeks at a time) in order to ensure there was control over the timing of injections and ultrasounds/blood work. Until recently, I went along with it, but the more I thought about it the more I worried that the pill was contributing to issues with my lining. It is taken by young women to prevent your body from being able to maintain a pregnancy, how does this make sense?! WTF?!
Again, this IVF protocol could be ok for anyone without a lining issue, but for me I swear it did not help my lining thicken. I have spoken to other women who have also insisted on not taking the pill before IVF (that also had lining issues) and they also saw an increase in lining thickness. To further prove my point, the other two times I went through a medicated FET cycle (that ultimately ended in a cancelled FET), the lining would not go beyond a 6. And during these cycles, I was prescribed the same medications (delestrogen and estrace tablets 3/day). I never made it to starting the progesterone in oil injections (which are awful) both of those first two times due to lining issues.
After refusing to take birth control during my last FET cycle, my lining went from a 5.9 the previous cycle to a 7.3. So if you are having issues with your lining I suggest that you refuse to take the birth control (as well as check out my Health and Wellness suggestions) and see if it helps your lining thicken. What do you have to lose? Especially now that you know how horrible it is for you! It was worth it to me.
